ABSTRACT

The focus of this study has been on task processes in classes of 6 and 7-yearold children whose teachers were rated as better than average by the advisory service in the education authorities concerned. Working closely with these teachers showed clearly that they were dedicated and conscientious people. Few with experience of working with infant teachers would doubt this description. The questions posed in this study relate to how such dedication is harnessed in attempts to provide appropriate learning experiences for their pupils.
