Whose Post-Modernism in Britain?

Modernism, then, has been the most powerful contemporary influence upon twentieth century British dance culture permeating the theatre, education, youth and community dance and public consciousness. It has exerted less influence upon popular dance in commercial halls but even here attitudes to dance, dress for dance and some dance styles inevitably reflect attitudes which are dominant in modernist/ post-modernist culture generally, especially popular music. The development of British dance culture, though, is influenced not only by the movements of twentieth century art, but also by attitudes and prejudices inherited from the past or from other aspects of British culture.
