ABSTRACT

Writing this chapter is timely for both of us; we are actively engaged in research and community activities focusing on young children in homes and schools. Both of us are struggling, in our research and praxis, to help children from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds have a better chance to be successful in and out of school.1

Further, in our research and collaboration with teachers, we encourage the recognition of the potential and competencies of all children. In our experiences with a variety of projects, we have encountered numerous issues related to research focused on equity issues and on creating ‘education that is multicultural’.2
