ABSTRACT

The remarkable pattern of human growth has unfortunately been little noticed or heeded by policy makers in education. The essence of it is the early development of the brain, its protecting skull and the sense organs, particularly eyes and ears in marked contrast to the slower growth of most other parts of the body. Indeed from early foetal life the weight of the brain is nearer to its adult value than any other organ except perhaps the eye, in itself an important fact for we are primarily visual animals.
