ABSTRACT

It is only necessary to look round a class of children or at your family to see how people differ. It is not only obvious physically in hair, height or eye colour but in ability and behaviour too.

In a class of 5-year-olds some have excellent hand control, can cut out with scissors, draw straight lines and circles, while others are clumsy. Some are shy, others bold. Among older children every teacher knows the child who needs pushing and the other who needs freedom and will use it.
