ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to introduce some of the recent history of educational research. Many of the themes and arguments touched on in this chapter will recur in greater detail in the chapters that follow, but a general introduction should provide a useful perspective within which the issues to be raised later can be located. The method employed to convey this kind of historical and contextual understanding of research in education is by focusing on recent developments in ‘curriculum’ as a field of study and research.
