ABSTRACT

During the past five years, David Jinks has developed a simple joining technique that allows primary teachers and young children to build successfully using wood. The technique was born of necessity when, after working in a primary school, he realized the difficulties and disappointments primary children experienced when they attempted to construct with wood using traditional methods and tools. The idea is simple and requires very little training before teacher or child can construct successfully. It consists of glueing small sections of wood together using PVA adhesive and triangles of card. Very few tools are required to build in this way, indeed, many primary schools already possess the necessary items.
