What should be the reaction to the commission of major international crimes, that is, genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes? The very fact that this question is now posed routinely in a criminological context should give pause for reflection. Something extraordinary has happened in the legal criminalisation of a form of conduct that has long been ignored by criminologists.3
