ABSTRACT
Part IV concerns mainly developments with regard to safety at sea that have taken place since the first edition. The chapter on European legislation, as compared with the parallel steps taken by the IMO, has been overhauled. Technological developments in the running of ships, public concern for protection of the environment and criminalisation, international regulations for safety at sea, the campaign for quality shipping, and insurance concerns have all influenced the development of maritime law in recent years.
