ABSTRACT
James andrew seddon was born in Prescot, Lancashire, on 7 May 1868, the eldest son of Thomas Seddon and Marion Seddon (née Heggie). His father was born in St Helens around 1844 and his mother in Scotland about 1842. His father was a nail-maker, as was his paternal grandfather (also James). He had two sisters, Ellen and Annie, and a brother, George.
