ABSTRACT

In an effort to contribute to the research base of poetry therapy, the three modes of poetry therapy will be examined: (1) receptive/prescriptive, (2) expressive/creative, and (3) symbolic/ceremonial. Mul tiple aspects of poetry therapy have been explored, including its role as an adjunctive technique, method of practice, theoretical framework, and philosophy of practice. A poetry therapy practice research model that addresses multiple uses is the most consistent with the state-of-theart and contemporary psychological practice.
