ABSTRACT

The certified poetry therapist (CPT) can work independently in nonclinical settings, such as libraries, schools, nursing homes, and pub lic groups, to promote health and well-being. Certified poetry thera pists can work in a mental health setting but not as the primary thera pist; they must work with a qualified mental health professional. The requirements for a CPT include a Bachelor’s degree, plus a total of 440 hours of training divided into the following specific categories: (1) 200 hours of didactic study of poetry therapy, (2) 60 hours of peer experi ence, (3) 120 hours of poetry therapy experience, and (4) 60 hours of supervision.
