ABSTRACT

Many schools now involve pupils in developing their websites. This requires yet another set of conventions. Web pages are usually written with short paragraphs, designed to convey a message very quickly as people are used to surfing the net for information and then moving on. The content needs to be clear and concise. Children will appreciate this from their own use of the internet. They will probably already be familiar with icons, buttons and hyperlinks. Even very young children may already be visiting favourite sites to play games. And older ones may be downloading music onto their MP3 players. This experience will give them a good sense of what successful web pages should look like. You can draw on their own understanding to help them to design their web pages.
