ABSTRACT

In the National Curriculum this is quite a broad strand that focuses not only on how ICT can help pupils get their ideas across but also sees the beginnings of programming, and experimenting with models or simulations to ask ‘what if?’ questions. Specifically they will:

‘use text, tables, images and sound to develop their ideas’;

‘select from and add to information they have retrieved for particular purposes’;

‘plan and give instructions to make things happen’;

‘create, test, improve and refine sequences of instructions to make things happen and to monitor events and respond to them’;

‘try things out and explore what happens in real and imaginary situations’;

‘use simulations and explore models to answer “What if?” questions, to investigate and evaluate the effect of changing values and to identify patterns and relationships’.
