A planned whole-class activity is normally structured around some given questions and guidance that steer pupils towards generalisations, connections and higher order thinking in the context or topic. These can be seen as strategic questions, formulated through analysis of task on the one hand, and judgements on the range of attainments or more general reasoning ability in a class on the other.
