ABSTRACT

St Mary's Primary School is a one-class entry school in a rural community in South Cumbria. The children come from a variety of backgrounds and nearly all enter the reception class from the school's own nursery class. The nursery classroom was opened in 2000 and was built next to the reception class with both groups having access to a shared outdoor area. This arrangement has provided a valuable opportunity to develop close relationships between the staff and the children; and the teachers plan together to ensure continuity and progression of provision throughout the Foundation Stage.
