ABSTRACT
If you were asked to say what distinguished a satisfactory teacher from an excellent one, you would probably guess at qualities like enthusiasm, communicative skills, depth and breadth of knowledge. Keeping up to date and enthusiastic about the content of one's teaching is probably unproblematic for most tutors. How to keep enthusiastic about the processes of teaching and learning may be more difficult, since most tutors lack the long period of training, reflection and research given to their subject study.
