ABSTRACT

Shane’s story illustrates some complex implementation issues that can arise out of the micro-politics in a classroom. Micro-politics that interfere with optimum outcomes are not unique to Intensive Interaction nor to schools in general. Most organisations have to face difficulties of this nature at one time or another. Where human beings work together on a daily basis there are bound to be occasions when particular strengths, weaknesses and personality traits cause friction. Undercurrents of dissatisfaction, pockets of resistance and overt or covert subversion are all damaging to teamwork, to morale and to optimum outcomes. In this chapter we look at the effect of classroom micro-politics in conjunction with low levels of senior management support and discuss how good coordination can minimise the negative impacts of both.
