ABSTRACT

Amelia Fysh (née Bullen) was educated at the Wintringham Grammar School, Grimsby, and then from 1942–46 served in the Royal Corps of Signals as a cypher operator and inspector. She trained as a teacher under the emergency training scheme after the Second World War, taught a reception class for two years and then a nursery class for a further five years. After attending a course in Child Development at London University’s Institute of Education she became Head of Beech Green Nursery, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and remained there for seventeen years from 1956 to 1973 (see Plate 4 ).
