ABSTRACT
The initial dose of steroids is 1 mg/kg body weight/ day (usually 60-80 mg/day) orally. The dose has to be tapered over period of time with the tapering schedule being 60-80 mg/day for 1-2 weeks depending on severity of inflammation, followed by 50 mg/day for 1 week, then 40 mg/day for 1 week subsequently to decrease by 5-10 mg/week to reach 20 mg/day for 1-2 weeks following which the decrease is by 2.5-5 mg/ week. It can be held at 10-15 mg/day for 1 month in case of indolent uveitis.
