ABSTRACT

This chapter approaches the topic of corporate social responsibility from a public health perspective. It assumes that alcohol use and misuse are so well entrenched in our culture that it does not contemplate anything other than a continuing presence. The issue then is how to live harmoniously with alcohol and not how to battle with it. From the perspective of those who have worked in the field of substance abuse for many years, and despite a huge and ever-expanding literature on the topic, it is astonishing how little is understood of the extraordinarily complex interactions between alcohol, the consumer, and the environment.
