ABSTRACT

One of the most profound sex-related differences in cardiovascular disease (CVD) is in heart failure, where systolic function is severely reduced in most men but is preserved in most women. The marked sex difference in diastolic heart failure (DHF) maybe due, at least in part, to altered responses to chronic hypertension, aging, and menopause. This chapter discusses the pathophysiology, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of this important disorder in older women.
