ABSTRACT

The cardiovascular system has long been considered vulnerable to the effects of psychosocial stress.1,2 Although several psychosocial factors have been linked to the pathogenesis of coronary heart disease (CHD),3 this field of research has been challenged by the fact that it requires a multidisciplinary approach, as well as because the exposure (i.e. ‘stress’ or other psychosocial characteristics) is often difficult to define in a rigorous way.
