ABSTRACT

A young woman, Miss Snow, decided to ask her uncle, a psychiatrist, whether to seek psychotherapy. She was experiencing difficulty in establishing close relationships, especially with men. Might psychotherapy help? If so, whom should she see? Her uncle suggested that she meet with a therapist for a few sessions to help her answer these questions, and he recommended she consult with Dr. M. He told her that Dr. M. had been one of his teachers, and he thought highly of him. Her uncle warned her that Dr. M. might be too busy to add a patient, but he was sure Dr. M. would make time for a consultation.
