ABSTRACT

Numerous studies have demonstrated that sentinel lymph-node (SLN) biopsy provides accurate nodal staging information for patients with breast cancer.1-6 As the procedure is becoming more widely accepted, attention is focused on optimizing the technique for SLN biopsy, which is performed by mapping the lymphatic drainage of the tumor using injection of blue dye, radioactive colloid, or both. Although excellent results have been reported in singleinstitution studies using a variety of techniques, the best technique is not clear from analysis of the literature.
