ABSTRACT

If you have gotten this far in the book, you were clearly motivated to learn about motivation! We would like to wrap things up with a few remarks.

There was a time when managing meant telling people what to do. The job is much more complex now. You need to focus more on people. This means creating a motivating environment which produces sustainable high performance while retaining productive personnel. However, this is very difficult to do. We have tried to make it clear that motivation is complex and that understanding it takes work. Making improvements means investing considerable time and effort. With the press of all the demands on today’s managers, it is easy to ignore what has to be done to create and maintain good motivation. However, our hope is that you will take the time to try what we have suggested.
