ABSTRACT

There is more to everyday memory than mundane matters like remembering to pay the bills or feed the cat. Everyday memory involves retrieving and using stored knowledge of many different kinds in the appropriate contexts. These different kinds of knowledge include knowledge acquired formally from education or training, as well as knowledge that is picked up incidentally. In the course of daily life, a person may need to use practical, theoretical, and expert knowledge in domains such as mathematics, music, electrical wiring, chess, cookery, stock markets, and many more specialised topics. Everyday memory is not just concerned with the trivial and the commonplace.
