ABSTRACT
The central proposal of this chapter is that material possessions are psychologically important because they are intimately bound up with our sense of identity. This is supported by evidence that documents that:
• Material possessions are experienced as parts of individuals’ extended selves, reaching beyond the boundary of the physical body.
