ABSTRACT
In one respect there are clear advantages in having such freedom but there are also several disadvantages. First, you can choose a topic that interests you, and one that you are curious about. You can then set about discovering something of real interest to you. If you are interested in a topic then you are also curious about it and you will wish to find out more. As a result you will enjoy your coursework and hopefully this will be reflected in your final grade. If you are not interested in the topic and it has been given to you, then you are less likely to be curious about the issues involved, and hence less likely to enjoy the work. The disadvantage of having to choose your own topic is that it is not an easy thing to do.
