ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses possible brain differences between men and women that might explain the gender differences in creativity, even today there are strong cultural influences that might account for these differences. H. L. Eysenck gave two possible biological reasons for the gender differences in creativity. The first reason deals with psychopathology and the second reason deals with intelligence. One of the reasons why men's and women's creative endeavors might differ is that the modular organization of their brains might differ. The differences between men and women might be related to differences in the development of the ventral versus dorsal systems. In the future, women's and men's brains need to be studied to directly test the hypothesis that men and women have different magnocellular versus parvocellular systems or ventral versus dorsal systems. Although there are differences between the brains of men and women, there is nothing known that could account for men's propensity to compose and perform music.
