ABSTRACT

Memory assessments are typically conducted within the context of a full neuropsychological evaluation that includes a general interview. Interviews are useful for determining subjective experiences of memory impairment, although memory complaints often occur in the absence of deficient performance on objective memory tests (Riedel-Heller et al., 1999; Schofield et al., 1997). Conversely, denial of memory problems due to lack of awareness is a frequent occurrence and does not obviate the need for memory testing (Lezak, 1995).
