ABSTRACT

Richo Cech is fascinated by the challenge of unlocking nature’s secrets of growing wild medicinal plants and has written many publications on medicinal herb cultivation, including his newest books, Making Plant Medicine (2000) and Growing At-Risk Medicinal Herbs (2002). For many years, he worked as herbalist and research and development person for Herb Pharm, an Oregon-based manufacturer of liquid herbal extracts. Currently, he runs a medicinal herb seed company called Horizon Herbs. He lives with his family on a small farm at the base of the Siskiyou Mountains in southern Oregon, where they grow over 300 varieties of medicinal plants for seed production. Richo serves on the executive board of United Plant Savers. He believes that the organic cultivation of medicinal plants provides a necessary alternative to the harvest of precious plant resources from the wilds.
