ABSTRACT

The backbone of neuropsychological assessment in the United Kingdom and to some degree the United States, has been the Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). Consequently we start with a review of the WAIS, and then move on to other traditional tests. The chapter then describes developments over the last decade, which has seen the rise of specialist batteries devoted to attention. Finally, there is speculation as to possible future directions in the assessment of this important function.
