ABSTRACT

Communication is the passing of messages across space and/or time, from one organism to another. For it to be possible organisms require emitters and receptors. It occurs almost entirely between animals, but it could be said that some plants communicate with animals by way of their flowers, their scent and the bright colour of their fruit. However, such communication is entirely one-way, since these plants emit communications but they do not receive them. While a degree of communication occurs between one animal species and another, the greater part occurs within a species, and as such, it has a powerful uniting function.
