ABSTRACT

In the preface we expressed the wish that the book’s contents would be helpful to its readers. We wonder, now, if that wish has been granted. After all, we have presented an analytical review of an array of theories that, in a number of ways, are as different from one another as night is to day. We are certain, too, that it becomes clear after reading the text that the nine theories we have reviewed not only differ from one another, but contradict one another as well. At what point, then, have we arrived? What are we to make of these theories of stuttering?
