ABSTRACT

As shown in Table 8.6, the 37 categories were sorted on the basis of the mean percentage of the exemplars’ features that are distinguishing. This analysis groups the categories in a manner that corresponds well to the category-level trends in the patient data. Creatures possess a low percentage of distinguishing features; 12 of the 14 creature categories are the lowest ranked on this variable. The non-living thing categories are grouped perfectly in that each possesses a greater percentage of distinguishing features than any of the creature or fruit/vegetables categories. In addition, the fruit/vegetables group together, and are ranked between the creatures and non-living things.
