ABSTRACT

Laparoscopy provides a simple and reasonably safe method of visually inspecting the pelvic organs and some of the other intra-abdominal organs such as the liver and gall bladder. The appendix can often be seen though structures on and in the posterior abdominal wall such as the kidneys are hidden by the loops of small and large bowel. The technique is therefore of considerable value in the investigation of a wide range of problems being particularly valuable in the assessment of pelvic pain, both chronic and acute, of tubal causes for infertility and in cases of suspected ectopic pregnancy.
