ABSTRACT
In this condition, previously called dysplasia or ‘carcinoma in situ’, the characteristic cellular changes of the neoplastic process are present in some or many of the surface cells but overall architecture of the layers remains intact and abnormal cells have not penetrated the basement membrane (see diagram).
