ABSTRACT

The ureters drain urine from the medial aspect of the kidneys which are situated high on the posterior abdominal wall. They pass down the posterior wall on each side of the spine and a short distance from it before entering the pelvis by crossing in front of the sacro-iliac joints over the point at which the common iliac artery divides into the external and internal iliac arteries. They then run downwards and forwards passing the cervix uteri just above the lateral vaginal fornices (where they are crossed at right angles by the uterine arteries) to enter the lateral parts of the posterior aspect of the bladder.
