ABSTRACT

Pruritis vulvae may be due to allergic reactions to washing powder residues in underwear or to deodorants and other cosmetic preparations that may have been used on the vulva. The vulval deodorants that were widely advertised for a time some fifteen years ago were a potent cause of problems, happily, they soon disappeared from the market. Susceptible individuals should avoid the use of perfumed soaps and moisturising creams; additional rinsing of the underwear or a change of washing product may be required.
