The classification of these cases is described above. Extension of the disease may be local (into the tissues around the cervix and, ultimately, out to the pelvic side-wall), lymphatic (to the lymph nodes around the iliac vessels and thence to the para-aortic nodes) or blood-borne (to distant organs, frequently to the spine, brain or lungs).
