ABSTRACT

Physiological (follicular and luteal) cysts are benign tumours but they are described separately (see above) because their management differs from that of pathological neoplasms.

Unlike the other tumours described in this section, the endometrioma is not a neoplasm but is a cystic tumour formed by the collection of old blood produced by an endometriotic deposit within the ovary (see, also, Chapter 7).
