ABSTRACT

In Chapter 4 we described how the small business model dominated the local enterprise scene. Alternative interpretations of what constitutes youth enterprise were rare and very much overshadowed by self-employment in sole traderships, both in terms of the numbers of young people we found that were following each path and the numbers of organizations that promoted them. However, we did identify other agencies that are significant in the different view they take of what it means to be enterprising. In this chapter we examine, firstly, community enterprise and secondly, co-operatives.
