Countering discrimination against the ‘disabled’: What good are ethics and law?

So concerned has the disability community been about the pervasive nature of discrimination against people with impairments that it cultivated an understanding of disability (the social model) that directly associates the discrimination that disabled people experience with the limitations imposed by social circumstances. This understanding of disability contrasts sharply with the medical approach to disability that preceded it and which still has significance in the medical and legal assessments of disability (the medical model).
