ABSTRACT

The whole Natura 2000 dataset is currently not released due to reasons of confidentiality, and Member States have to agree on the dissemination of data on an individual basis. Although data can be obtained through individual Member States, the availability of Natura 2000 site information can vary considerably between countries. For example, the information for the UK is freely available on the Internet, including a downloadable version of the GIS boundary data. Finnish data can be purchased and has a licence that controls the redistribution of data, and in Spain it is virtually impossible to obtain coherent data and co-ordinated information about Natura 2000 sites.
