ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to draw together the major common issues in this book and to propose recommendations for future action on how to improve data access for global monitoring. The first part of the chapter identifies the main concerns on data policy and access to data that have been common themes throughout the book. The question of sustainable funding is one of the cornerstones of building environmental data systems, so this issue is examined separately. The chapter is completed with a discussion of recommendations and next steps.
