ABSTRACT

Some theorists have suggested that all of human memory might be based on a spreading activation network, and, indeed, much (priming) data can be explained parsimoniously by this single module. However, there are certain problems that this module either cannot solve, or cannot solve while simultaneously maintaining the capabilities it has that account for similarity priming and inferential generalisation-properties that make this module attractive in the first place. The capabilities of the four different modules are outlined in Table 13.1. The limitations of the semantic lexicon are detailed below.
