ABSTRACT

As we outlined in the Introduction, a large body of evidence (see Logie, 1995, for a review) shows that the representation format in VSWM is specific and can be differentiated from representations in other components of WM. This format is “analogic,” at least in part. It maintains some of the properties of the corresponding perceptive visuo-spatial representation and is typically associated with the phenomenological experience of having a mental image. Investigating characteristics of VSWM representation therefore implies analysing visuo-spatial processes, mental images, and their properties.
