ABSTRACT

Most people who sustain a brain injury subsequently exhibit some forms of emotional and behavioural change in addition to their cognitive problems. These changes vary in severity and where they are more subtle, relatives and carers often find it difficult to describe exactly what has changed. This chapter will consider the management of irritability and aggression, and that of disinhibited or inappropriate behaviour, including sexual disinhibition. These are both areas that disrupt treatment programmes and contribute significantly to the stress experienced by families and to the success or otherwise of reintegration into the community.
