ABSTRACT

The High-Risk Model of Threat Perception (HRMTP) is a theoretical and applied model that attempts to assess and predict the risks specific mind-body interactions pose for the development of psychological and physical symptoms and illness. It has isolated a set of primary higher order (PHO) behavioral and personality risk factors (predictor variables) that have been shown to increase stress, drive physical symptoms, and contribute to illness, including three measures that are relevant to sport performance: high or low hypnotic ability or absorption, high neuroticism/negative affect (NA), and high or low repressive coping (RC).
